The Chickens Are Comin' Home

Yes, indeed.
The chickens are coming home to roost.

So in the spirit of chickendom, I have included a selection of photos from the Office of War Information / Farm Security Administration Collection at the Library of Congress.

Girl with a Chicken, 1942

This collection is one of the best image resources for the Great Depression and the early years of World War II.  There are thousands of black and white photos and hundreds of color slide images.  What is historically significant is that this is one of the earliest collections of color photography - Kodak had just created the Kodachrome process.  Rolls of film cost $5 at a time when many people made only $1 a day.  So, obviously, not many people were able to use the new color photography.

By the way, since these photos were taken by federal government employees - including Dorothea Lange - they are all public domain.

If you have any chicken photos, let's see 'em!
